Grounding Rods - Proper way to ground lightning strike currents

Can we stop Lightning Surge? – No.

But by implementing proper grounding system, we can avoid any damage to the electrical and electronic systems.

Grounding is an electrical technique that connects a part of a facility or structure to the earth by means of a conductive material. Grounding Rods are a foundational technique for Lightning Protection. The main objective of grounding is to provide a straight, low resistive path for very high currents to enter the earth and be absorbed without harming equipment or people.

There are many ways to achieve proper grounding but one of the most common methods is using grounding rods.

What does a grounding rod do?

Grounding rods are very good conductors of electricity. They allow any dangerous electricity to flow to ground (yes, the earth!), taking the danger away from you and the electrical panel. Without a grounding rod, electricity from lightning strikes (up to 1 billion volts of electricity) can go through the main panel and destroy your electrical and electronic systems.

How does LEC’s grounding rod reduce resistance?

Chem-Rod – LECs manufactured grounding rod called Chem-Rod is an ultra-efficient grounding electrode designed to provide optimal low resistance, low impedance interface with earth. Chem-Rod achieves its full potential with Grounding Augmentation Fill (GAF) & LECWELD.

GAF - 95% of the resistance of a grounding rod is established by the soil within an area whose radius is 1.1 times the electrodes length. Augmented soil with GAF (a special formulated mixture to help create low resistance earth interface) backfill facilitates a low resistance ground connection. GAF has a low freezing point and expanding factor, and retains moisture better than local soil.

LECWELD – it’s engineered to be an easy and efficient field welding system. No outside power, bulky gas tanks or other equipments associated with welding are required. It creates a permanent, homogenous and molecular bond that cannot loosen or corrode. It can also withstand more current that the conductor itself.

LEC is engineers and products can solve your most complex challenges in grounding, surge suppression and lightning protection. Our integrated approach weighs all of the factors affecting your exposure to lightning and ensures the resulting solution brings the risks within your acceptable range.
